Strategies for staying healthy while quarantined

We live in a completely different world now. One where there is social distancing and you can only video chat with friends and family. Health has become a major concern for all of us. Therefore, we want to let you know some great strategies for staying healthy while quarantined. As a reminder, per CDC recommendations we should wash our hands, keep a balanced diet, practice self care and take care of our mental health

1. Establishing a Routine is essential

Establishing daily routines is really helpful with kids at home, but also for those who now have to work from home or retirees who can’t get out.

Connecting with the outside world is part of a good routine, especially for those who live alone. Whether via computer or telephone, try to reach out to your friends and family. A lack of socialization can be harmful to your mental and physical health and can have an impact on your immune system. It can be the cause of your stress and anxiety.

And don’t forget to keep a consistent sleep routine. It is important to stay healthy and aim for seven to eight hours of sleep each night.

2. Keep a balanced diet

Overeating can have a temporary calming effect. But if you don’t manage your eating habits, you’re more likely to put on unwanted weight.

Remember that it is nutritious foods that have a good effect on your sleep, mood, energy level and immune system. Just opt for extra snacks if you’re hungry. And do something else before opening the fridge like taking a walk with your dog or trying a new activity such as dancing, painting or writing. Also, fluid intake is really important to boost your immune system. So, why wait? Try out all of these!

And for those who are on restricted diets for health issues such as heart disease or diabetes, these tactics can help you during these stressful times.

3. Plenty of Exercise!

Exercising is vitally important no matter the age. It can help reduce stress, which can take a toll on our immune systems. You can check out online exercise or yoga classes. Try to exercise 30 minutes per day if possible. By staying active, you’ll be able to do many of the things that bring enjoyment to your life.
